The challenge begins! A new term has began and already I am excited purely because of what we are doing in this exciting assignment. The challenge is to create a 3 minute long video representing a selected genre. Initially my thoughts were based on coming up with a good idea for a quick short film, but also will keep the audience entertained. Me and Shaun, fans of ’Made in Chelsea’ a dramality show were very keen on the idea of doing something similar about three students (Myself, Shaun and Elliot).

However, fortunately we are not running along with the idea as it would have become an increasingly difficult task to accomplish throughout.

Today was a long day!, a very long day. After a lot of critiques I learnt a lot of new stuff by viewing other presentations i,e presentation skills and getting to the point but nevertheless it was also good to be critiqued on our work.

Today we were also joined by Alan, who’s opinions and constructive criticism joint with Mary’s were very very useful. They reminded me a little like the Dragons from ‘Dragons Den’.. What was missing was them to say “And for that reason, I’m out” – You need to watch it to understand the joke!

Okay so here is what I come out from the critique of our presentation

A) Our presentation skills were good. We worked well as a team and were not shy – We also got a cheeky compliment from Alan, which I will not repeat.

B) We were precise to the point. Our concept was viable and our strategy was also complimented.

C) Our presentation layout was slightly disrupting; our layout was portrait and didn’t seem professional also the words were not visible from a distance. – Through these constructive criticism, we will be sure to not make this mistake again.

Overall, it was a long, but good day. I learnt a lot of new stuff and also stuff, which I will use for future purposes. Definitely not a day to miss!

It was important that we prepared for the critique for today and we did exactly that. All waking up in the early hours to get at the University at 9.00, ready for presentation at 11 we did a quick play of our presentation.

We admit, we may have been trespassers at this time!

Here are some pictures…

Some intensive hand gestures here! Obviously in deep debate.

Disagreement, theres nothing new there then with me and Shaun! It’s great really!

In action!, here me and Shaun are in action rehearsing our drill for the real critique.

Just at the end!, We finished our final drill (After almost 20!) we finally felt confident.

The happy family!, we do look cool. Unfortunately Grant is missing because he is the photographer here!

This was probably the best part of the day, it was fun and it was interesting. We took the professional approach by actually preparing to make sure we look good on the real thing. After all like Mary said something on the similar lines… “your pitching for the job”. We wanted the job!

Before going to the critique and asking around how their feeling and getting some mixed responses, I certainly was heading in there in a positive note. I was pleased with my final piece and was ready to talk about it, but then came the hammer blow… “#RageFM your first” AND the dreaded timing lol.

In the end I really enjoyed the critique because I thought my presention wasn’t bad (I didn’t mutter), the questions that were asked, I answer I think accurately and overall I think I did well. I also enjoyed viewing other peoples artwork (took the lazier approach and sat back, rather than search online for their work).. Good old critiques!

Today was deadline day for four assignments! And as if the pressure for that wasn’t already enough, we also had two critiques today and one of the was Motion Graphics.

After coming out of my first critique (Lens Based Media) I was feeling quite confident for the second one too. Fortunately this time I wasn’t first!

Viewing other peoples work was very helpful; not in the respect that I can see the level of other peoples work, but because I could see how people thought their stuff through and what ideas they had. It was intriguing as you got to see how people worked and almost their strategy.

I thought my critique went okay, I didn’t mutter/stutter and my mini presentation was good.

Looking forward to the next term.

It’s complete!, Finally I can say I have completed my ‘Motion Graphics’ piece to all my friends who have showed theirs and I can show it off at the critique on Monday. Going to be fun and interesting!

I have finally completed my motion graphics and I may say, I am impressed and proud of my work considering at the beginning I was not fond of the software as it also was my very first time using the software. But nevertheless it was great to instantly get hands on rather than gradually getting to the point (Not the best technique for me!)

I uploaded my video on Vimeo as I think that is probably the best video sites for designers rather than YouTube, which is full of sh*t.

Typography | Facebook from RageBrahimi on Vimeo.

—————————————————————————————————-

Did I find the assignment difficult?
If I had to put a number on it, I would rate the difficulty 5 out of 10. The reason is because initially I found the programme to confronting and had a lot of stuff, which I found it a bit of a bore to explore. Secondly, it was my first time using it so although it was learning something new, this can be rather difficult at times. However, nevertheless once I was halfway through my project I found it entertaining and I began to enjoy it. Not as much as Photoshop though.

What I like about my final piece?
Personally, my favourite things from my favourite piece would be how I used the Facebook colour schemes to blind everything well and it also the use of the ‘Loading’ and ‘WhiteSpace’ – http://www.rageport.co.uk/archives/200 because it made it interesting and that is what I wanted to achieve.

What would I do differently if I did this again?
I would probably give my self less of a difficult task by choosing an audio where the character DOESN’T speak so fast. To time the words perfectly with the audio was very difficult considering how fast ‘Mark Zuckerberg’ talked and at times my words looked so out of place it made me at times feel disappointed with my final piece.

Overall as a first assignment I was happy with the end result and also happy with the first term!

Okay, I have done! This is my final piece…

A quick Q/A…

What I like about it?
I like the fact that it’s not overdone with any textures, images or text. The simplicity of it makes it elegant and I think it looks good.

What’s my favourite bit?
Without sounding like a douche, it would probably be the picture of me replacing the letter ‘O’ in the ‘Boss’, as it fits just perfect haha!

What don’t I like about it?
Although I went for simplicity, I think it looks to simple. I went for something like this - http://www.rageport.co.uk/?p=309 but obviously with not too much images used. In comparison, mine does look shocking though.

What would I have done differently if I did it again?
I would have probably made it seem more like the example I had blogged about earlier. I do like my final piece though.

What’s the concept behind it?
The concept behind it is to always look professional. It might not sound like a concept, but I tried to portray it through the way I am standing (on the right), whilst holding my find and also the way I pose within the other picture (on the left).

With the introduction of #RageFM (It actually began in a ‘Motion Graphics’ lesson), I come up with some ideas (which will be relevant and useful) to add to my final piece. I’ve actually already implemented them.

I think these cheesy additions will make it humoristic, although they are relevant as they are about ‘History’ and ‘Time’

The first cheesy part would be the ‘Drag to remove unnecessary whitespace‘…

As you can see the ‘Drag to remove unnecessary whitespace’ (Spelling mistake! Argggh :@) is the first thing you see with the piece. By my piece being about History and Time, I thought it would be a good idea to instantly portray Facebook’s determination to not spam their users. Facebook are known for their minimal advertising and I think you have to respect that! This is the reason why I have chosen to drag that pointless white space there.

Then..

This is probably my favourite part of the video. The idea come from whilst I was looking for videos to be inspired from and whilst researching I always come across the ‘loading’ which was very annoying. This is related because no one likes to wait and Facebook have a slight problem with loading… ESPECIALLY with their Facebook chat and it can be very annoying.

I tried to keep both very minimal timing, but I think their interesting and funny.
